Entrepreneurs – The industry was turned upside down with risk takers Henry Ford and Donald Douglas as they shuttle everything from mail to people in the world’s first airborne business ventures. Inventors – Fly from a spinning set of single blades?! Sikorsky’s legendary single-rotor helicopter tells the tale of how essential tinkerers and testers are to any industry. Barnstormers – Spin, dive and walk on wings with the daring young men and women who thrive on the gasps and applause of crowds in our festival atmosphere! Explorers – Defy the odds with Admiral Richard Byrd as he attempts to reach the North Pole by plane with amazingly sparse resources. Recordbreakers – Be “there” for the ticker tape parade when celebrated aviators Charles Lindbergh and Amelia Earhart stretch records, and imaginations! Douglas DC-3 – Walk under the 95 foot wingspan of this historic workhorse of the flight industry, positioned at the entry of this exhibit after more than 12 million miles of travel. Additional support for Heroes of
the Sky is provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
