on the legendary “King Biscuit Time” radio show and, after a time, joined a traveling carnival show. It was during the carnival years that she met BB King. Friends had invited Odessa to attend BB’s show in Jacksonville, Florida. Unknown to her they had arranged for BB to invite her to the stage. BB was so impressed that he offered her the opportunity to join his tour leaving the next morning. She accepted and stayed with BB’s band for several years. Odessa moved to Detroit in the early seventies and continued to work the national R&B club circuit. She retired from
the music business in the late eighties only to be tempted back several years ago by jazz trumpet master Marcus Belgrave. Marcus introduced her to Detroit drummer RJ Spangler who became her manager. She was back in the business. Nearing fifty years as a professional she has at long last released her first album, The Easy Life on the Eastlawn Record label. The Odessa Harris Group appears regularly at blues and jazz clubs around the Detroit area. She may be contacted at rjblues2@aol.com or find her schedule on the Detroit Blues Society web site.

Maggie McCabe

What do the a cappella group Lorelei, the world beat group 47UMa, the folk/blues trio Maggie’s Farm and vocalist Pam Tramck of the rockers Motor Dolls all have in common? Royal Oak, MI native Maggie McCabe (a.k.a.: Pam Tramck) currently appears with all these groups. This talented lady studied classic vocal techniques as well as gospel and entered the professional music world in her mid-twenties. After several years she dropped out to give full attention to her family. Rejoining the entertainment scene in her mid-thirties she wasted no time. Her group Maggie & The McCabes received a number of award nominations and won the Performers Awards of Detroit in 2000 for Live Vocal by a Duo or Group. Maggie plays the guitar, mandolin, bass and the Irish drum, the bodhran. She is a regular
at the Detroit Blues Society acoustic jam sessions where her sultry vocals and charming demeanor are always appreciated. Add Maggie to your “must see” list. Learn more about Maggie McCabe at www.maggiemccabe.com and check the DBS web site “Events” page to find out where she is performing.
